April is Occupational Therapist (OT) month, and what better way to celebrate than by attending the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Annual Conference & Expo from April 7 – 10. (With more than 10,800 people in attendance, it was a record breaker!)

We were at the conference to introduce ourselves to the industry’s most talented minds. We were excited to speak with hundreds of people one-on-one about their patients’ needs and how Obi can help.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Occupational Therapy profession, let us provide a quick rundown of this vital role within society. Occupational therapists offer a life-changing support role through helping to evaluate, intervene and provide proactive solutions for people of all ages and circumstances. They help people to participate in the things they want and need to do through therapeutic use of everyday activities. This includes dining, for those with circumstances in which they’re unable to eat independently.

With this in mind, it’s no surprise why Obi is so proud to have been a part of a conference focused on a profession that helps to positively impact so many. After all, it truly is a natural fit! At the core of our robotic device is a mission to empower and enhance the lives of those who use it, and Occupational Therapists do just that in their work every day.

Beyond meeting countless amazing industry professionals, there was one person who really stood out as being a positive force during the conference, David Hare.

David is living with ALS and is a personal advocate of Obi. You may have seen his video on our YouTube or Facebook pages, but in the case you have not, we invite you to watch his heartwarming story here. In it, he gracefully shares his journey with ALS, and how Obi has helped to transform his life.

As with most things in life, it’s one thing to talk about something, but taking action is where the heart of one’s passions truly lie. This is why we were honored to have David join our team at the AOTA conference, as he volunteered his time to talk with conference attendees to share Obi’s positive impacts. It was amazing to see him in action, pioneering on behalf of Obi, helping to spread the word about the invention that has, “Given me something back. A sense of independence.”

As newfound connections met the acquaintance of one of Obi’s advocates at the AOTA conference, our team was left feeling honored, humbled, and driven by the momentum that we felt. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to David for generously offering his time to help spread the word about Obi, and we’d like to thank all those that we met for your interest. We look forward to positively impacting the lives of many with our robot in 2016 and beyond!
