REIMBURSEMENT

Reimbursement may come from a variety of sources including Government Medical Programs, Veterans Administration, Insurance Companies, Government Agencies, Advocacy Groups, Foundations or other groups.

Private Insurance or Medicaid

A successful insurance submission packet will often include the following documents:

  1. Letter of Medical Necessity | Written by a Medical Professional (OT, SLP, MD, etc.)
  2. Quote for Obi and Applicable Accessories | Provided by Obi Robot
  3. Doctor’s Order or Prescription | Provided by Physician

State Waiver Programs / Accident Funds

If you have obtained a State Waiver, reimbursement is a possibility if your primary (and possibly secondary) insurance companies have denied your submission.

The following documentation is needed for Waiver reimbursement:

  1. Denial letters from your primary (and possibly secondary) insurance
  2. Letter of Medical Necessity, Quote for Obi, and Doctor’s Order | As listed above under “Private Insurance or Medicaid”

Veterans Administration

In most cases, Obi is covered for conditions limiting an individuals’ ability to feed oneself. If Obi is not already an approved vendor at your local VA facility, please contact Obi to initiate the process.

Workers’ Compensation

Obi has been funded by Workers’ Compensation in various states. If your need for Obi is a result of a workplace injury, please contact your Workers’ Compensation representative.

School Funding

If your child is in a special needs program, check with your child’s Special Ed Teacher, School Nurse, or Therapist. Schools often have budgeted funds or have access to grants for assistive technologies.

ADVOCACY GROUPS

Various Advocacy Groups may have loan closets that can supply you with an Obi or provide a grant to help pay for Obi. Contact your local chapter for additional information.

SOME OF THE KEY STEPS IN OBTAINING REIMBURSEMENT INCLUDE:
  • Investigate and identify appropriate funding agencies such as Government Medical Programs, Veterans Administration, Insurance Companies, Government Agencies, Advocacy Groups, Foundations or other funding groups.
  • Determine what is required to qualify for reimbursement.
  • Obtain a letter of Medical Necessity.
  • Gather required information including medical history, earnings history, insurance information, personal story, etc.
  • Obtain pricing information for Obi including required switches and accessories.
  • Submit information and forms as required.
